Making Smoothies in a Blender or Power Blender, which is better?

When creating smoothies, you will most likely start out using a conventional blender to make them.  However, as you progress in your “smoothie making journey” you might find the regular blender somewhat lacking.  The main reason a normal blender just isn’t good enough is that it is unable to really puree a full variety of food items.  Sure it is fine for the typical banana, milk and whey powder smoothie, but it really can’t do anything with some of the more dense items like ice, frozen fruit and tough vegetables.  Even if it does manage to blend those items, the resulting smoothie will not be really “smooth” but somewhat lumpy and grainy.

The best machines for making smoothies are the Power Blenders.  These blenders differ from the typical blender by the high RPM’s that they are able to achieve.  This coupled with very sharp blades and often a centrifical action make them in a completely different league than the standard blender.

Can your blender do that?!?

Two Best Power Blenders for Making Smoothies and More

The two main contenders in the power blender category are Blendtec and Vitamix.  I myself have a Vitamix and absolutely love it.  There are other lower priced power blenders out there, but don’t be fooled.  They are NOT capable of performing like these two.  I started out by buying a Ninja and was so disappointed.  I couldn’t even attempt to drink the grainy sludge that it made from a recipe from Vitamix.  I returned it and bought the Vitamix, even though it was more expensive.  That same recipe in the Vitamix was delicious.

I recommend the Vitamix as the “Cadillac” of power blenders, followed by Blendtec.  Both are quality products, but I’m partial to the Vitamix for making lots of delicious, healthy things like hot soups, pancake mix, and of course smoothies.
